Which mental health presentations are not appropriate for Flourish@Living Life Counselling Services?

In general Online Counselling or Mobile Counselling is not appropriate for people whose life may be in danger through self-harming behaviour, harm to others or where there are concerns about the well-being of a child under the age of 16.

In addition severe and enduring psychiatric presentations requiring a multidisciplinary mental health  team approach (such as psychosis, unmedicated bipolar disorder or eating disorders - where the person’s life may be in danger) are not suited to Flourish@Living Life counselling services.

It is also important to note that Online Counselling is not currently covered by Medicare under the Medicare Better Access Scheme. Online Counselling may be covered by your private health insurer - please contact your insurance provider for more information.

Are the Therapeutic Support Services offered NDIS approved?

  • It takes time and money for service providers to become NDIS registered, so many providers (like us) choose NOT to register as NDIS providers. Such services are known as unregistered providers. 
  • Being unregistered has nothing to do with a service provider’s professionalism or quality of supports.
  • If you have a NDIS plan it must be Self Managed or Plan Managed to access an unregistered provider.
  • Accessing unregistered providers opens up many more options, which can be particularly useful in regional or rural areas.

I am an NDIS participant, how do I access the therapeutic support services using my NDIS package?

For NDIS participants, the main difference is that you can only access unregistered providers if your NDIS plan is Plan Managed or Self Managed. Whereas if you are NDIA Managed, your options are restricted and you can only access NDIS registered providers.

If you Self Manage your NDIS plan, we will send the invoice to you to pay and you will then have to manually claim the funds back from the NDIS using the NDIS portal - but if you're Plan Managed, your Plan Manager does this for you.

How do you keep my counselling sessions Confidential?

We maintain confidentiality and will not disclose anything to anybody about you unless you ask us to do so, give permission to do so, we are required by law or there are compelling reasons such as significant risk to you or someone else.

Confidential documents are kept securely for the required number of years after your last contact with us.

Your counselling messages and case - notes will be kept securely and privately on our data system and will only be handled by your counsellor.

When is counselling available?

We offer a Free 15 minute initial phone consultation for both mobile and online counselling modalities. The initial consultation assesses what your concern is and helps the Counsellor determine the best counselling mode of service for you.

All Counselling Services are via appointment.

Can I use SMS Counselling if I reside outside Australia?

To access Flourish@Living Life SMS Counselling, you need to live in Australia. If you go overseas for a holiday or move overseas you will not be able to access the service.  

How old do I need to be to use Email or SMS Counselling?

You must be over 18 years of age to use our service.

Children and young people may like to try other online counselling services such as Kids Helpline.

Join a Group Therapy Program?

Group Therapy is conducted throughout the year in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Warwick and the Scenic Rim. Please contact our team for more information.

Do you provide counselling for children?

Yes we provide counselling for children. We only use approaches that are evidence-based: that is, approaches that have research to support its effectiveness for children. We also believe VERY strongly in working with the child’s parents. Research evidence suggests that working with parents is the best approach for helping children. We therefore set aside each session to talk with the parents to give parents the skills to manage their child’s difficulties.

Fees, terms and conditions are provided during the initial phone consultation. Discounted counselling packages are available.

Text Messaging Counselling and Email Counselling Packages are available for purchase in our store.

Do I need a referral?

You are welcome to refer yourself to Flourish@Living Life Individual, Group and Intensive Therapy Programs.

We welcome referrals from:

Department of Communities (Child Safety) and (Disability) 

Department of Youth Justice

What is the Human Flourishing Model?

The Human Flourishing Model is an evidence-based Model to ameliorate youth marginalisation. The Model was developed by Dr Carol Schultz.

What is the purpose of the Human Flourishing Model?

The Human Flourishing Model is a cost-effective model for reducing the effects of youth marginalisation (eg. youth crime, youth mental health, youth homelessness, unemployment) in society. 

Why choose the Flourish@Living Life Intensive Therapy Program?
